Vintage stamps

When I see these pretties I almost want to become a stamp collector, you know... who go to vintage stamp fairs to find the most pretty stamps and pay a LOT for it! I really understand this addiction. I actually would love to design stamps for PostNL! There are still so many beautiful possibilities on a very small surface. Maybe there will be Sjoesjoe christmas stamps in shops in the future! You never know ;)! I found these stamps on Pinterest!

Tips n' Trics #7 Visuals for Home, About & Contact

#7 Visuals for Home, About, & Contact

So you have found the button to create extra pages at your blog. But you are wondering how to create a visual for your different pages. It's not difficult at all. I will explain in this Tips 'n Trics what you'll have to do.

* Create a page * Publish the page * Copy the URL of this page. 4. Create a nice visual ( around 250 pixels) for your different pages. You can use a photo or Jpeg file ( I always make my visuals in Adobe Illustrator, but Photoshop would work as well!) * Go to Lay Out and add a Image gadget * Upload the visual * Paste the copied URL code of your page at the link area * Now go back to Pages and drag your page to hidden ( Your page still exists but you can't see the Blogger link on your homepage anymore; it's hidden) * That's it, you made your own page visuals J! You'll see your visual and when you click on it your page will open!

Totems by Alain Delorme

When I travel I always find it so funny to see what people bring on their bicycles. Especially in Asia you see big volumes of stuff wrapped around a bike. These photo's of photographer Alain Delorme, made me smile yesterday. The bright colours and the setting of the bike's are fantastic. The Totems series plunges us into the core of contemporary China and its complexity. Under the blue sky of a highly colored Shanghai, men carry throughout the city unbelievable piles.

Fun winter gifts by

Have you seen the new Rice high winter catalogue? It's full of fun & beautifully made gifts. During my holiday I realized how HAPPY and LUCKY I am to be a part of this creative and FANTASTIC brand ( sorry but capslock in this case is really necessary haha). Perhaps you need some inspiration for your gift list? Get inspired like I did... hopefully Santa is reading my blog too.

Localilo in Johannesburg

When we left Amsterdam with Johannesburg as our first destination we had a BIG list with don'ts. Lot's of people warned us about the enormous violence, danger, guns etc. Ok, JB has it's darker sides, true, and you should avoid some hoods such as Downtown JB. But in every bigger city you have some things to watch out for. Really, I had a lovely time over there!! There are some hoods where it's safe, peaceful and inspiring. I find it a pitty that most people skip this city with it's special history. Maybe this will change your mind...

* eat: The Service station, once an old Caltex service station, now airy with full-blown roses and cobalt woodwork, this meeting place bustles with fashionable people exhibiting their best ‘we don’t try’ looks. They serve the prettiest drinks, pastries and cakes, but go for the service, the luxe breakfasts and superb coffees. For lunch, you could weigh salads and quiche offerings by the plate, or order from the blackboards. Located on the corner of Ninth Street and Rustenburg Road in Melville.
* sleep: The Hillside House. This beautiful guest house offers a private yet homely retreat in the heart of vibrant Melville. The four airy rooms are styled simply yet elegantly, with heavenly beds and sumptuous en-suite bathrooms. And there is a big Chagaranda tree in the garden, which is purple somewhere in the month October!
* shop: You can find a few secondhand shops in the vibey 7th Street in Melville. NiceFind is a special one. This shop boasts a wide selection of vintage and ordinary second hand ornaments, furniture, clothing and a wide selection of books.
* see: Apartheids Museum. For anyone wanting to understand and experience what apartheid South Africa was really like, a visit to the Apartheid Museum is fundamental. The museum is a beacon of hope showing the world how South Africa is coming to terms with its oppressive past and working towards a future that all South Africans can call their own.
* support: The Sprout Foundation. They believe in sustainable growth. The Sprout Foundation aims to be the partner of choice to deliver early childhood development solutions to disadvantaged children in Gauteng which will equip them with the necessary tools to live a sustainable life. Sanne Timmer, a lovely Dutch girl living in JB, is one of the founders. I am so proud on her what she is doing! Like them on Facebook and support this great initiative!

Sjoesjoe in South Africa & Botswana!

Hi! I'm back from an amazing wild and beautiful holiday! We rented a 4X4 with a roof tent, loved it! We started in Johannesburg (which is actually a great city, so tomorrow I'll make a Localilo report! ) and traveled to Botswana! Botwana is beautiful, basic, friendly, wild and full of amazing animals!! We camped in the middle of nowhere, made safari's in the Okavanga Delta, were surrounded by lot's of elephants, enjoyed the nights of the Chobe national park, said Hi to our friend Mr Leopard and jumped in the Victoria Falls! And we were surrounded by colourful trees with purple, red and yellow blossoms! Life is goooood!
