Love summer

My house is full of flowers at the moment. One of the best things of summer if you ask me! One of my favourite fowers is the Dahlia. She is big, bright, happy and you can find her in many different shapes. One day I will have a garden full of Dahlia's myself. Until then I love to make summer flower arrangements on every empty spot in the house! J

Golden birds and butterflies

I bought this paper sheet full of golden shiney birds and butterflies yesterday in Options store ( you know, the store I told you about a few weeks ago ) Always inspiring to stroll around for a while. So what shall I do with it? Cut the birds and attach them on a gift or keep it like this and hang it on my wall in a colourful frame? Perhaps I should buy another one! ;) Have a great day! x

Pretty paintings

Lulie Wallace is one of my favourite artists at the moment. I am following her for a while now. Charleston based artist Lulie creates dazzling acrylic-on-birch paintings under the mantra that " the less perfect the subject, the more beautiful the finished product". Her daring colour combinations set apart each piece as truly one of a kind. She mix colours and prints in her paintings, L.O.V.E it.

Ice ice baby!

It's summertime and suddenly I see homemade ice pops everywhere! Colourfully layered, with fresh fruits, in many different shapes and even with flowers! They look so delicious and pretty!! And the best of it all, it's very easy to do it yourself. So gather some fruits, lemonade, plastic shapes, wooden sticks and go ahead. Have a look to these beauties and be inspired to make the most original ice pops. Must be a fun thing to do on a sunny afternoon.

New looks for Sjoesjoe blog

My blog is like my wardrobe, I just have to change it every now and then... I was a bit bored by the header, the colours and the 'Blogger typefonts'. And because I design my own graphics it's an easy peasy job for me to give it a fresh new look! As you can see I made it more colourful and bright, I hope you like it :)

Localilo in Amsterdam #4

Last weekend I had a little 'holiday' in my city Amsterdam. We did some biking, lot's of eating, we visited an exhibition and had a perfect dinner. It was a perfect cosy day and it really felt like we were on a long trip again. So today a little Localilo report about Amsterdam.

* eat: Holtkamp, my favourite patisserie in town. Their ready-to-put-in-the- oven tarte tatin is very famous. Just like their delicious shrimp croquets, lemon meringues with almond shavings, florentines and pastries. It's always busy and you have to wait a bit, but it's all worth it! Everything they make is done with lot's of care and love MMM! Holtkamp is situated in a beautiful art deco shop at the Vijzelgracht.

* see: Hermitage museum, Impressionism: sensation & inspiration. I loved this exhibition showed in the beautiful historical building. I like the style of the impressionists and the fact that painters like Monet, Rodin, Pisarro and Sisley dared to be different in a time where this was not usual. Did you know that the invention of the tube ( yes the little tin tubes for paint) is one of the reasons why Impressionism started ( besides of the invention of the photography)?

* shop: Utrechtse straat, one of my favourite shopping streets in Amsterdam. Here you find a good mix of interior, fashion and lifestyle shops. But watch out, you really want to buy everything over there! Have a look for example at Jan and buy yourself a little present, go to their neighbours, perhaps you'll find a nice dress at Bellerose, and for an inspiration BOOST you definitely must go to Maison NL, a beautiful store!

Just say it and laugh

Perhaps you didn't expect it on this cosy happy blog... But I always have to laugh ( really hard laugh, you know, those laughs with tears) when I see quotes that are funny, with a rough edge and most of the times look sweet. Quotes with honest clear words, the ones who just say it. Maybe because I live the happy sweet lovely life, it sometimes really need these kind of prints :) Otherwise it would be so soft and boring. Most of the times the quotes are very positive. It's all about live, and the 'just do it' mentality. Makes me smile.

Rocking horse with a second life

A few weeks ago I found this really sad damaged yellow rocking horse in front of my house. The horse almost fall apart and it was ready for his last ride to the dump. But I fixed it again with some new screws, lot's of sanding, a few layers of paint & lacquer, a bit of love and, as a finishing touch, I made a little pillow. It became a perfect present for a little boy's first birthday... And the horse lived happily ever after J!

A funny tribute to our grandparents

I had to wait for a friend somewhere on a train station, so I decided to look around in the bookshop. A wonderful decision because I found this amazingly funny book of Bette Westera: Aan de kant, ik ben je oma niet! ( which means: on the side, I am not your grandmother ) The book shows us very funny poems about 12 residents of a nursing home. 2 Poems per character; one about the past and one about now. It shows us in a lovely way that older people lived a life and have their own stories to tell. It gives you a smile and the illustrations made by Sylvia Weve are a feast for the eye!

Summer mood

My weekend was all about celebrating! It started with good news for Studio Sjoesjoe. I made a concept for Centraal Museum in Utrecht ( I was asked to do a pitch) and they chose me J! I promise I will tell you more about it soon. We had a wedding celebration and a birthday of a 1 year old little boy. A fun weekend with a smile. Anyway. Let's start today with some of my pins to get in that really WANTED summer mood.

Fabulous flea flowers

These flower prints looks so flea and fabulous! Must have been lovely to live somewhere around the 1900's. All the shop windows, magazines and commercials were painted and hand drawn in fun colours. So much better then the average shopping streets & magazine ads now a days.

Fluor art

I started this morning with a little Pinterest boost. One of my favourite things to do early in the morning. After some scrolling around I always feel inspired and ready to make beautiful things! Today I completely fall in love on these little painting/collage art style. BI-UTI-FUL ♥ Miranda Skoczek is the wonderful Australian artist behind these pretties. She works in a mixture of oil, acrylic and combines graphic shapes and silhouettes in fields of colour.
